Royal Marine Fitness
A taster of what I was given in the Marines to do when on leave. Remember Royal Marines will have to do up to 30 miles in order to earn their green beret. Every marine does the commando course tests consisting of:
Endurance Course
Tarzan assault Course
9 Mile Speed March
30 miler....weighted run over dartmoor.
I can assure you these are quite cheeky, are all done in the space of a week and all have to be completed in a certain time.
Exercise Plan... (whilst on leave during training)
Weekend: 4-6 miles steady state run (no faster than 6.40 pace)
Monday: CV work (ie bike, rower, stepper, swimming) Atleast 45 mins followed by press ups, sit ups, squats, jump lunges and pull ups. Do 10 of the exercise, then 9, then 8 all the way down to 1, With pull ups to 5-1.
Tuesday: 5-6 miles steady run followed by press ups, sit ups and pull ups.
Wednesday: Swim work and rope climbing practise. Then good stretch.
Thursday: 4-5 mile fast run. Finish off with press ups, pull ups and sit ups.
Friday: Day off. Good stretch.
Repeat over 3 weeks
Thought of the day: Earn your drinks out.
For anyone seriously thinking about joining the Royal Marines i would recommend reading 'The making of a Royal Marines Commando' by Nigel Foster. I read it before joining and still read it whilst serving....I have literally read it countless times and I can't say that about many books.
